This is an opportunity for Safe Church In-person training for LAY PEOPLE.
Safe Church Training: Registration now open
Diocesan Safe Church Trainers will conduct this important in-person training for lay leaders and church staff on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Emmanuel Church in Newport with check-in starting at 8:30am. The program begins promptly at 9am and ends at 1:30pm. Coffee, water and snacks will be provided.
Universal training is required for church employees, volunteers working with youth, home visitors, licensed lay ministers and church leaders including vestry members, volunteer program leaders and Altar Guild. Certification of training shall be renewed every three years.

Join us for Christmas Eve at Emmanuel Church. Because the Fourth Sunday of Advent falls on December 24th, we will have only one service in the morning at 10:00 a.m.
Our celebration of Christmas Eve will be at 4:00 p.m. to accommodate those with small children or who don’t want to drive after dark.
As has been the custom for Newport’s Episcopal Churches, we all gather to worship together on Christmas Day. This year, Trinity Church is hosting the Christmas Day service with Emmanuel’s rector, the Rev. Della Wager Wells preaching.

The Rev Canon Nicholas Porter will be our guest preacher and teacher. Father Nicholas is the founding director of Jerusalem Peacebuilders – a ministry of interfaith reconciliation that specializes in peace and leadership education in Jerusalem, Israel, and Palestine.
After the 8 a.m. service, he will be leading an interactive forum in the Library, entitled Chosen Traumas, Chosen Glories, that explores how foundational identities cause families, groups, and nations to act like individuals and often lead to intractable conflict. When events – no matter how horrific – shape identity, they never fade away. Instead, they shape and trigger behavior on the battlefields of Ukraine, among Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs, and in our lives today.
