Christian Formation

Christian Formation for adults includes Wednesday evening programs during Advent, Lent and other seasons of the church year. The Emmanuel Speaker Series and Sunday morning conversations with the rector about life and the Bible are also part of Emmanuel’s Adult Christian Formation program. All are open to all who wish to deepen their spiritual journey. Most of these gatherings are around a table; refreshments are usually served. Please contact the church office for the current Adult Christian Formation Schedule.

Young People

Sunday School classes for youth ages 3-15 are conducted every Sunday morning at 10 AM. Children join their families in the service during at the Sign of the Peace. In the Christian Formation program at Emmanuel, we use Godly Play. Godly Play “teaches children the art of using Christian language – parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action – helping them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives”. If you have questions about Godly Play or the Christian Formation Program, please contact the Parish Office at 401-847-0675.

Godly Play

The result of a lifetime of research and practice by theologian, author and educator the Rev’d Dr. Jerome Berryman, the Godly Play® method is a curriculum of spiritual practice exploring the mystery of God’s presence in our lives. The Godly Play curriculum engages what is most exciting about religious education: God inviting us into – and pursuing us in the midst of – Scripture and spiritual experience. Godly Play is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance. Godly Play has a Montessori foundation with 40-plus years of research and practice.   Godly Play is led by Miss Jordan Sleeper.
