Soup’s On BBQ August 1st

As you might be aware, Emmanuel hosts Soup’s On on the first Tuesday of every month.  For August, to celebrate the summertime Chef Jackie Breen is holding a cookout on the church lawn – weather permitting.  If you can help, please stop by.  Food is served from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.  Help is need with set up starting at around 4:00 pm and with clean up starting at 6:00 pm.

Rev’d Professor Maggi Dawn preaches

The Rev’d Professor Maggi Dawn (PhD) will preach on a Sunday in July, August and September before returning to England.
She grew up in England, and her first career was as a songwriter and performer in the music business. She then returned to university, taking degrees in theology at Cambridge University.
Since being ordained she has combined her love of the arts, theology and church life in a series of roles. She has been Fellow at Cambridge, then Associate Dean of Yale Divinity School, and more recently Professor of theology and college Principal at Durham University. In addition, she has spent time as Artist in Residence at the Diocese of Newark, NJ, Ruth Etchells Fellow and Visiting Fellow at Durham

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Join us for the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

The menu will be pancakes, sausage, and fruit salad (and maybe some other items).

We will serve from 6 – 7:00 pm.

Annual Service Award

We have a history of annually recognizing a parishioner who have given memorable service to Emmanuel.  In 2022, the Vestry approved the establishment of the award as the Lillian G. Hargrove Award as a tribute to Lil for her years of memorable service and for which she can never be thanked enough.

The recipient for 2022 is Bobby Gaines Jr.

Just as Lil, the award’s new namesake, exemplifies faithful commitment and service, Bobby has served Emmanuel selflessly all his life. He grew up at Emmanuel Church, led Scout troops, led and trained generations of acolytes, and is a main component of Emmanuel’s institutional memory. Bobby is the face returning Emmanuelites remember and recognize, as he continues in his lifelong service …

Saints Among Us Award

This year Fay and Ed Gosling together are presented the Saints Among Us award. Fay and Ed give generously of themselves every day at Emmanuel, from the most humble service in thermostat monitoring and maintenance to contractor supervision and systems diagnoses that require advanced degrees in electrical engineering and an adept assistant. The Goslings especially shine at Coffee Hour, where Ed specializes in operating our big church coffee pot, making coffee for just about every host of Coffee Hour, and Fay makes what I’m certain are the best lemon butter ginger cookies on the planet, along with some seriously delicious breakfast casseroles and breads.…

Annual Meeting , January 22, 2023

Emmanuel Church held the 2022 Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 22, 2023, following the 10:00 am service.

We met in the Library with a short coffee hour and then the meeting was called to order , with 38 in attendance and 8 by Zoom.
