Armistice Day – Sunday, November 14

Armistice Day – Sunday, November 14 will also be a special day as we honor our veterans and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Natalie Bayard Brown’s gift to Emmanuel of the reredos (the back of the high altar) and the apse murals around the high altar in honor of the women and men who served in World War I. It’s definitely worth a visit to the hallway behind the reredos that runs between the vesting sacristy and the working sacristy to see the commemorative sign:
To the glory and praise of God
in thanksgiving for the bringing of peace
out of the world war
in gratitude to the men and women
who served their God and country
this reredos and these mural paintings
are placed in Emmanuel Church
by Natalie Bayard Brown
that their beauty may be an inspiration
to all who worship therein
dedicated on armistice Sunday
the thirteenth day of November A.D. 1921
